According to local media, Serbia's Prime Minister is stepping down amid anti-corruption protests. In his farewell speech, he claimed the unrest was artificially created from outside:
As if some invisible hand created a new incident and created tension in society.
The anti-corruption protests began after a concrete canopy collapse at the Novi Sad railway station killed 15 people. Critics believe corruption is the cause.
Protesters demanded accountability and the resignation of President Aleksandar Vučić (who blamed the West for the protests), Novi Sad Mayor Milan Đurić, and Vučević himself.
On January 27, over 50,000 protesters initiated a 24-hour blockade of Belgrade's main traffic junction.
Vučević had served as Prime Minister since May 2024, previously holding positions as Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister, and Mayor of Novi Sad.
