The Senate has approved a bill introducing criminal penalties for stalking and forced marriage, Orda.kz reports.
The legislation amends 16 different laws, including the Criminal Code, as well as the health and family codes. The bill aims to strengthen protections for individuals by expanding the scope of criminal liability for personal offenses.
In order to increase liability for crimes against the person, it is envisaged to separate criminal liability for serious and especially serious crimes from criminal liability for serious and especially serious crimes related to an attack on the life or health of a person, the Senate committee's report stated.
Once signed by the President, the amendments will officially recognize stalking and forced marriage as criminal offenses under Kazakhstan's law.
