The 2029 Asian Winter Games will take place in Saudi Arabia at the Trojena ski resort, part of the ambitious and costly Neom project currently under development, Orda.kz reports, citing Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee.
Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 10th Asian Winter Games was approved in 2022 during a General Assembly meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia in Cambodia.
Trojena will be the first ski resort in the Persian Gulf to feature sub-zero temperatures and open snow slopes. The venue is expected to be completed several years before the Games begin.
Saudi athletes debuted at the Asian Winter Games this year, competing in alpine skiing and curling.
Until now, the Winter Asian Games have only been hosted by four countries: Japan (four times), China (three times), and once each by Kazakhstan and South Korea.
At the 2025 Asian Winter Games, Kazakhstan secured 20 medals — four gold, nine silver, and seven bronze —finishing fourth in the overall standings.
