Russian Gas Supplies to Europe via Ukraine Stop

Russia's Gazprom has halted all gas deliveries to Europe through Ukraine starting January 1, ending a transit agreement with Naftogaz that had been in place since 2019, reports Orda.kz.
Gazprom claims it can no longer transport gas to Europe via Ukraine, citing technical and legal constraints.
This leaves the Turkish Stream as the sole remaining pipeline route for Russian gas to reach EU countries.
Energy analyst Abzal Narymbetov points out on his Telegram channel this will cost Russia around $6.5 billion in revenue. Ukraine will also lose its annual $1 billion transit fee, while Europe stands to lose roughly 5% of its gas supply.
Ukraine has repeatedly asserted that it will not allow Russia to benefit from the transit.
Meanwhile, Russia has agreed to help Kazakhstan market gas from its Karachaganak field, with Kazakhstan's authorities recently signing an agreement with Gazprom.
