The punk musician and activist Aikhal Ammosov, who was in a pre-trial detention center in Almaty, announced on his Instagram that he was in Germany.
Aikhal Ammosov (Igor Ivanov) was detained in Almaty on October 9, 2023, at the request of the Russian Federation. In Russia, he has been charged with discrediting the army and calling for extremism.
In November of the same year, it became known that the activist, who was in pre-trial detention, had received a certificate of asylum-seeking status.
Lawyer Murat Adam then explained that this document should not be confused with the decision to grant asylum. The status only suspends extradition to Russia.
At the time, lawyers hoped that Aikhal would be granted asylum in Kazakhstan. He spent almost a year in a pre-trial detention center in Almaty. He was released on October 9, 2024.
In his stories, Ammosov said that he was in Berlin on Saturday, November 9.
