Russian and Tajik troops have begun joint anti-terrorism exercises at the Harb-Maidon training ground in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region, Orda reports, citing the Russian Defense Ministry.
The active phase runs from April 7 to 11.
The drills will simulate combating armed terrorist groups and preparing units for operations in mountainous terrain.
The main stage of the maneuvers will involve a joint operation to eliminate illegal armed formations, secure the border, and neutralize infiltrating groups, the Defense Ministry said.
The Russian contingent primarily comprises units from the 201st Military Base, including mountain, motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance forces, and helicopter crews.
Communication specialists, FPV drone operators, UAV units, and electronic warfare teams are also participating.
The 201st base, Russia’s most significant military facility outside its borders, is stationed in Dushanbe and Bokhtar. The Harb-Maidon site is located about 20 km from the Tajik-Afghan border.
