Transneft intends to increase the volume of Russian oil deliveries to China through Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports, citing Vedomosti.
According to Abay Beisembayev, Deputy General Director of Kaztransoil, the Russian company, working within a joint task force under the energy ministries of both countries, is aiming to raise annual shipments from 10 million to 12.5 million tons.
To support the increase, the task force is evaluating the construction of new oil pumping stations in Kazakhstan. Beisembayev noted that this would help expand the country’s oil transit capacity over time.
At the same time, the export of Kazakhstan's crude through the Russian pipeline system continues.
The timeline for the proposed 25% increase in Russian oil flows to China via Kazakhstan has not yet been disclosed.
Such intentions were initially voiced in April, when Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak met with Kazakh Presidential Advisor Magzum Mirzagaliyev and Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
