There was an attempt to bring corn seeds from Kazakhstan to Russia, which came from Austria and France, Orda.kz reports, citing Rosselkhoznadzor.
According to the Russian agency, on November 8, trucks from Kazakhstan were stopped at the border in the Orenburg region. Quarantine seeds with a high degree of risk were found. Upon inspection, they learned that the corn was European.
It was established that corn seed material (hybrid “Norico” and “Delikao”) was imported from Kazakhstan in a total volume of 40.7 tons (1600 kraft bags), reported Rosselkhoznadzor.
No documents indicated the absence or presence of GMOs in the seeds. The foreign laboratory that concluded about the corn and sowing qualities did not pass an audit.
The "wrong" corn was sent back to Kazakhstan, and those who tried to import it to Russia were fined.
