The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that any deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine is categorically unacceptable for Russia, Orda.kz reports, citing RIA Novosti.
The agency also warned that such a move could lead to uncontrolled escalation with unpredictable consequences. The comment came amid Western discussions about the possible dispatch of a NATO contingent.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Ukraine’s membership in the alliance is not currently on the table, but that discussions are underway about providing Kyiv with security guarantees similar to NATO’s collective defense commitments.
Meanwhile, following talks in Washington, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized:
“We appreciate the signal from the United States about readiness to support and be part of security guarantees for Ukraine.”
He added that in talks with Donald Trump and European leaders, the key topic was security guarantees, alongside the return of Ukrainian children and the release of prisoners of war.
Reports have also surfaced that a potential meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy could occur in the next two weeks. There has been no official confirmation.
