Moscow purchased $195 million worth of Kazakh gold, 1.6 times more than a year earlier, Orda.kz reports.
From January to September 2025, Russia sharply increased its gold purchases from Kazakhstan, according to the Bureau of National Statistics. Import value reached $195.6 million, up 61.5% year-on-year, while the physical volume grew by 17.2%.
Russia became the second-largest importer of Kazakh gold, following Kyrgyzstan, which bought 2.3 tons worth $201.3 million.
In 2025, Kazakhstan supplied gold exclusively to CIS countries.
Silver exports to Russia, however, declined. In the first nine months, Kazakhstan shipped 2.2 tons worth $1.03 million, compared to $1.41 million a year earlier — a drop of nearly 27%. This is below Kazakhstan’s total silver export volume, most of which goes to the UK and the US, accounting for 78% of the market (46% and 32%, respectively).
According to the World Gold Council, Kazakhstan produced 87 tons of processed gold in 2024 — 1.3% less than in 2023 — dropping to 14th place globally, behind Mexico, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan.
