Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller announced the signing of a legally binding memorandum with China on the construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline and the Soyuz–Vostok transit route through Mongolia, Orda.kz reports, citing RIA Novosti.

The agreement provides for gas supplies over a period of 30 years, with an annual volume of 50 billion cubic meters.

In addition, Russia and China agreed to expand the capacity of the existing Power of Siberia pipeline from 38 to 44 billion cubic meters per year, as well as to enlarge the Far Eastern route to 12 billion cubic meters annually.

Gazprom and CNPC also signed today a new memorandum on strategic cooperation, which reflects a new stage in our work with CNPC on new projects, Miller said.

Reports surfaced in November 2024 reports on constructing a gas pipeline from Russia to China through Kazakhstan.

Following the reports, the Chinese Ambassador to Russia, Zhang Hanhui, expressed skepticism about the possibility of Russian gas being supplied to China through Kazakhstan, as a new pipeline would need to be constructed.

The diplomat highlighted the Power of Siberia 2 while talking with journalists.
