Roscosmos announced a successful ground test of the first stage of the new Soyuz-5 launch vehicle, Orda.kz reports.
The key component of the future rocket is equipped with the RD-171MV engine, which delivers a record-breaking thrust of 800 tons.
The tests took place on the evening of October 10 at the Rocket and Space Industry Research and Test Center in Peresvet. The fire test lasted 160 seconds and exercised all onboard systems using kerosene and liquid oxygen.
The agency emphasized that this stage will not only underpin Soyuz-5 but also a future super-heavy rocket. According to Roscosmos, these tests pave the way for the first launch of Soyuz-5 from Baikonur later this year.
The Baiterek project, responsible for developing Soyuz-5, is seen as revitalizing Baikonur’s role in space access and further modernization.
