All those sentenced for crimes committed during the January events are currently being held in pretrial detention facilities per the law. This was reported to the Orda.kz editorial office by Kazakhstan's penal enforcement committee, KUIS.
After their sentences enter legal force, convicted people are transferred to facilities based on their security classification and designated custodial locations.
This process is carried out in accordance with established standards and is not an exception in this case. The transfer is carried out using video recorders and surveillance cameras,KUIS informed.
The Committee assured immediate family members would be notified of where their relatives would serve their sentences, emphasizing that all legally guaranteed rights would be abided by.
Meanwhile, lawyer Elena Zhigalenok has raised concerns, stating that on January 27, immediately after the verdict announcement, over 40 convicts were transported to KUIS facilities across different regions of Kazakhstan.
She says this is a violation of their constitutional rights. Family members of some detainees have reportedly taken to social media, expressing concern over being unable to locate their imprisoned relatives.
