In Qulsary, Atyrau Region, a long-running domestic conflict ended in tragedy and a severe court ruling. A 63-year-old woman and her son have each been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a man who had repeatedly threatened and assaulted their daughter and sister, Orda.kz reports.
The events began in late 2023. After her divorce, the woman returned to her parents’ home and entered a new relationship, which soon became violent.
The man frequently abused her, forced his way into the house, and caused disturbances.
During one such incident, he attacked her again and struck her mother when she intervened. Police detained him, but he somehow reappeared at the house.
When the woman’s younger brother found out, he rushed home, and a fight broke out between him and the intruder. During the struggle, the mother grabbed a kitchen knife in an attempt to stop the man. He fled outside, where the confrontation continued, and in the chaos, the mother fatally stabbed him.
I was protecting my daughter. He could have killed her if I hadn’t intervened, she said in her final statement to the court.
Both were found guilty of homicide and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The verdict was upheld on appeal and by the cassation court.
