At a meeting of the Samruq-Qazyna Group of Companies’ public council, the Chair of the Board of JSC QazaqGaz, Alibek Zhamauov, spoke about the country’s performance during the heating season and outlined plans to increase gas production, Orda.kz reports.
Zhamauov noted that Kazakhstan remains largely self-sufficient in gas, though temporary imports are still required during the winter months, when consumption spikes due to severe frosts.
According to him, QazaqGaz is already preparing several new exploration and production initiatives together with foreign partners.
We're currently discussing new blocks with foreign investors. I think next year we'll begin geological exploration, drilling new wells, and trying to find our own domestic gas for the domestic market,
said Alibek Zhamauov.
At the same meeting, Bolat Zhamishev, Chair of the Kazakh National Fund, noted that the discovery and development of new deposits would take time and are not expected in the immediate future.
