QazaqGaz and KOR Discuss Exploration Plans at Aqquduq, Shalqar Sites

QazaqGaz and oil company KOR have outlined their plans for upcoming gas exploration and infrastructure development at the Aqquduq site in the Mangystau region and the Shalqar site in the Aqtobe region, Orda.kz reports, citing the national company’s press service.
Aqquduq is a well-studied geological block with confirmed deposits. It is known that there is gas there, and the development of the Kansu site has been considered an important task for the industry for many years. Now we are moving on to its practical implementation,
said Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chair of the Board of QazaqGaz.


At the Shalqar site, all preparatory geological work has already been completed. According to Shalqar Energy CEO Marat Nurpeisov, exploratory well locations were selected based on reprocessed 2016 seismic data, comparisons with similar fields, and basin modeling.
The first well is scheduled to be drilled in June 2025.
This event will be an important milestone for the industry. The development of the Shalqar block is being implemented using a new formula, which provides for a motivational system for subsoil users. The project also serves as an example of a strategic partnership between a national company and a private investor in the gas exploration segment,
the company added.
Talgat Akhsambiev, a shareholder of KOR, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s energy goals.

Both companies agreed to continue collaborating on priority projects to strengthen Kazakhstan’s gas sector.
