A 22-year-old entrepreneur from Qaraganda, Alika Mukhamadieva, has been arrested for two months following controversial remarks she made on the social media platform Threads, Orda.kz reports.
She now faces criminal charges for inciting ethnic discord.
Mukhamadieva, who runs a parcel delivery business from China and owns a clothing and accessories store in Qaraganda, found herself at the center of a public backlash after posting a message that many users deemed offensive and provocative.
Her comments quickly drew widespread criticism online, including threats of violence. In response, she issued a video apology — but the fallout continued.
According to the Qaraganda Region Police Department, Mukhamadieva is under investigation under Part 1 of Article 174 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan — “incitement of ethnic discord.”
The investigation established that a 22-year-old Qaraganda resident posted a publication on the Threads social network that contained signs of interethnic discord. The investigative authorities learned of the suspect's intention to leave the country, in connection with which a petition was filed for a preventive measure in the form of detention,
police officials stated.
On July 22, the Qaraganda court approved the request, and Mukhamadieva was placed under arrest for two months.
The pre-trial investigation of the case is ongoing, the necessary examinations have been ordered, and based on the results of the investigation, a reasoned procedural decision will be made,
law enforcement added.
