Qantar: Officer Convicted of Torturing Detainee

The Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court has issued a verdict in a January Events torture case. The police officer pleaded guilty, Orda.kz reports, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Specialized Almaty prosecutors carried out the investigation. During the trial, it was proven that on January 8, 2022, an employee of the Almaly District Police Department tortured a detainee in a pre-trial detention center.
He was found guilty under Article 146 of the Criminal Code "Torture."
The court took into account the admission of guilt and sentenced the police officer to restricted freedom for two years and six months.
He was also deprived of his special rank and the right to work in government agencies.
The sentence has already entered into legal force.
