Putin Will Announce Russia’s Negotiators for Türkiye Talks “When He Deems It Necessary” — Peskov

President Putin will announce who will represent Russia at the negotiations in Türkiye “when he deems it necessary,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Orda.kz reports.

Media reports earlier claimed that he planned to send Sergey Lavrov and Yuri Ushakov in his place.

Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow will disclose who will represent Russia at the talks in Istanbul “as soon as President Putin considers it necessary to announce.” According to him, the Russian side continues preparations for negotiations with Ukraine.

No further details were provided.

Without citing a source, Komsomolskaya Pravda had previously reported that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov would head the Russian delegation in Istanbul. The report also claimed that Putin’s aide for foreign policy, Yuri Ushakov, would join the delegation. 

The post was later deleted, according to Novaya Gazeta.

The outlet Gulagu.net also reported the same, citing a Federal Protective Service source. The service is responsible for the protection of Russia's top state officials. 

The source noted that the plans could change if there is a “personal agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump.”

Before the above developments, Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was ready to meet at the Istanbul talks with Vladimir Putin only. 

He stated that Medinsky, Lavrov, and Mishustin are unlikely to be authorized to make the necessary decisions.
