Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held a phone call with Vladimir Putin, congratulating the Russian leader on the outcome of his meeting with Donald Trump in Anchorage, Orda.kz reports.
The summit was an important step in strengthening Russia's international position and contributed to a better understanding of Russia's position on Ukraine on the part of the United States, Toqayev said.
Putin, in turn, shared some details of his talks with Trump. Wrapping up the call, Toqayev expressed appreciation for constructive cooperation in the energy sector.
Earlier reports said that in Anchorage, Putin proposed a settlement plan involving the return of parts of the occupied Sumy and Kharkiv regions in exchange for Ukraine’s full withdrawal from Donbas and abandonment of NATO membership.
Moscow also seeks recognition of Crimea, the lifting of some sanctions, and special status for the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
