The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan has concluded its investigation into the alleged theft of 6.4 billion tenge during the reconstruction of the Astrakhan–Mangyshlak water pipeline, Orda.kz reports.
The suspects include senior executives of a major company.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the theft was uncovered during a budget audit.
The former general director of the quasi-state enterprise Magistralny Vodovod — a subsidiary of KazTransOil — is among the main suspects. The case also includes his deputy, contractor company representatives, and the design firm's founder.
It has now been submitted to the court.
As part of the investigation of the criminal case, the suspects’ property was seized in the amount of 1.1 billion tenge,
the Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized.
The Astrakhan–Mangyshlak pipeline supplies water to the Atyrau and Mangistau regions. It was officially launched in December 2023 following reconstruction and serves as a vital water source for oil and gas companies, industrial facilities, and the Atyrau petrochemical park.
