After a current employee of the prosecutor’s office alleged that her colleagues were deleting records of crimes from the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations (ERDR), the Internal Security Department conducted a review of the Jambyl Region unit but reported no violations.
However, Prosecutor General Berik Asylov has since ordered a second investigation, Orda.kz reports.
According to Yerlan Zhanpeisov, an official spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office, a team including staff from the Internal Security Department, the relevant division of the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Deputy Chair of the committee has been dispatched to the region.
The claims were made by Aliya Kozhabekova, an employee of the Jambyl Regional Prosecutor’s Office, who addressed President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev directly through social media. In her public statement, she spoke of misconduct within the department and claimed she was facing pressure from her superiors.
Kozhabekova called for an independent and impartial investigation and requested that her previous complaints be reviewed.
