For holding secret gatherings inside a prison, a man has been sentenced to eight and a half years, Orda.kz reports.

According to the investigation, in spring 2025, the man was serving time at Colony No. 54, where he organized clandestine meetings. There, he spread radical ideas and attempted to recruit other prisoners into an extremist organization.

At trial, the prosecutor sought imprisonment. The defendant admitted guilt but asked for leniency. The court considered his five young children as a mitigating factor, but his record of repeat offenses was deemed aggravating.

As a result, he was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.

Only last month, seven people in Kazakhstan were convicted on terrorism-related charges. Sentences ranged from four to nine years, including for previously incarcerated radicals who received new charges directly while in prison.
