Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov publicly criticized Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev over the sluggish pace of landfill construction, Orda.kz reports.
During a Cabmin meeting, Nyssanbayev acknowledged that only 20% of landfills in Kazakhstan meet environmental and sanitary standards.
At the end of 2023, the government approved a roadmap to build 100 new landfills. So far, seven landfills have been completed and put into operation. Design and estimate documentation has been prepared for another 23, and similar work is underway for 18 more. For the remaining 52 landfills, regions still need to allocate funding and begin preparing documentation,Nyssanbayev reported.
Bektenov, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry's progress.
There are no results to be proud of. The Ministry needs to organize the work of Akimats. We need a clear position from the ministry on this issue. So far, we don’t see it,he said.
