President Toqayev Meets with Turkestan Region Akim
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev received Akim of the Turkestan region Nuralkhan Kusherov, Orda.kz reports.
As noted by Aqorda, the Akim reported on the region's socio-economic development results over the past year and future plans.
Nuralkhan Kusherov told the President about attracting funds from the Islamic Development Bank to restore irrigation facilities. Financing for 24 projects for 135.5 billion tenge was approved.
To ensure a stable water supply to Turkestan and six adjacent regions, the Baidibek Ata Reservoir is being built, and the Boralday Reservoir project is being developed.
The regional Akim also stated that special attention is paid to developing cotton, corn, and meat clusters in the agricultural sector. They plan to implement five projects worth 197 billion tenge in the cotton and textile sector.
The region has begun building a starch and molasses plant and is implementing Australia's experience in developing meat and livestock farming.
To solve the energy shortage problem, they plan to implement six projects with a total capacity of 2.4 GW. They also plan to provide industrial zones with the necessary infrastructure.
Nuralkhan Kusherov noted that this year, 32 schools will be built in the region; another 41 will undergo significant repairs. They will also commission 32 primary healthcare facilities and gasify 45 settlements.
Qasym-Jomart Toqayev instructed the new Akim to cooperate closely with the government to ensure high-quality implementation of the tasks defined in the law "On the special status of the city of Turkestan."
It was signed the day before. He also set tasks to improve the quality of life, develop tourism, agriculture, and small businesses, and provide drinking water.
The Islamic Development Bank has allocated more than a billion dollars for water projects in Kazakhstan. This is the largest financing project in the bank's history.
