Twenty peacekeepers have received state awards following their return from a United Nations mission in the Golan Heights, Orda.kz reports, citing Aqorda.
The first group of peacekeepers returned from the Middle East last week. President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev met with them on April 14.
During the meeting, Toqayev emphasized that few countries conduct their peacekeeping missions and noted Kazakhstan’s role among them.
At the decisive moment of the conflict in Syria, you acted pragmatically and decisively, and thereby confirmed the high level of professionalism of the Kazakh army. Then the entire world community witnessed the high spirit and courage of the Kazakh warrior. You served in combat zones, showed great courage and acquired rich experience. Now it is necessary to pass on your knowledge to other service personnel,
Toqayev said.
A ceremony was held during the meeting to present state awards. In total, 20 service members received decorations: one each for the Order of Aibyn (1st and 3rd degree), six for the Order of Aibyn (2nd degree), and twelve for the “Jauyngerlik Yerligi Ushin” medal.
The full list of recipients is available on the Aqorda website.
Kazakhstan’s first peacekeeping contingent was deployed to the Golan Heights in March 2024.
Last week, the Ministry of Defense announced that a second group would soon be sent to the region.
