The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Internal Security Department has arrested the deputy head of the department for combating drug-related crime. He is suspected of drug possession and distribution, Orda.kz reports.
The case also involves his subordinate, an operative, who faces bribery charges.
These details were disclosed by lawyer Talgat Yesimov.
I would like to express my opinion that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should abolish its department for combating drug trafficking and its subdivisions within regional police departments. These functions should be transferred to the National Security Committee.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the arrest of the officers. Two police employees from the Turkistan Region Police Department were taken to a temporary detention facility, and a pre-trial investigation is underway.
The ministry stated that personnel purges are ongoing, under the personal supervision of the head of the Interior Ministry.
"We declare our principled position and zero tolerance for betrayal of the oath," said ministry spokesperson Shyngys Alekeshev.
Following the incident, a disciplinary committee meeting was held at the regional police department. After the meeting, both officers were dismissed for unfavorable reasons.
An internal investigation was also ordered concerning other responsible officials.
