Poachers Kill Red Book Goitered Gazelle In Almaty Region

Two men in the Almaty region shot a goitered gazelle listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book and tried to flee from police, Orda.kz reports, citing the regional prosecutor’s office.
The suspects were detained during a raid in the Uygur district. Police, prosecutors and employees of Charyn State National Nature Park took part in the operation, using drones and off-road vehicles.
During the inspection, officers found two men who had illegally shot the protected animal.
The offenders tried to flee the scene, but law enforcement officers detained them. During the inspection, meat from the illegally killed goitered gazelle, hunting weapons, ammunition and other physical evidence were seized,police said.
Authorities also identified the place where the illegal hunting took place and established the circumstances of the case.
After the investigation was completed, the criminal case was sent to court. The suspects are being prosecuted under Article 337 of the Criminal Code — illegal hunting.
