The case of Perizat Kairat and her mother, Gaini Alashbayeva, will be reviewed by the Astana Court of Appeal, Orda.kz reports.
On Wednesday, the Astana City Court’s appellate panel is scheduled to hear the appeals of Kairat, Alashbayeva, and their lawyer, Aslanbek Dauletiarov, the court informed reporters.
On July 25, the Astana Interdistrict Criminal Court sentenced Perizat Kairat to 10 years in prison on charges of fraud and money laundering. She was also banned from charity work for 10 years, had her property confiscated, and was stripped of her state award.
Her mother, Gaini Alashbayeva, received a seven-year prison sentence on the same charges, was likewise banned from charity work for 10 years, and had her property confiscated.
According to prosecutors, Kairat and Alashbayeva misappropriated 3,545,897,507 tenge by exploiting the trust of citizens.
The confiscated property was ordered by the court to be used to compensate victims, which included major Kazakhstani banks — Forte, Alatau City Bank (formerly Jusan) — and the fintech company Kaspi.
