The U.S. Department of Defense has cleared the potential transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, Orda.kz reports, citing CNN.
The department concluded that doing so would not undermine U.S. defense capabilities, the outlet writes, citing American and European sources familiar with the discussions.
However, the final decision remains with President Donald Trump.
During his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump reportedly gave ambiguous answers when asked about the missile deliveries, emphasizing that the U.S. itself also needs these weapons.
Ukrainian authorities have made several calls for the weapons.
According to CNN’s sources, a rapid-delivery plan for the Tomahawks has already been prepared in case Trump gives his approval. The U.S. military has also developed special ground-based launch systems. The Ukrainian Navy is incapable of effectively deploying the missiles from ships or submarines, as is customary.
