A bilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is scheduled for July 10 in Abu Dhabi, amid the ongoing peace process between the two countries, Orda.kz reports, citing the Armenian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
According to Pashinyan’s press secretary, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the Armenian leader will depart for the United Arab Emirates today for a working visit. On July 9, he is expected to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
Aliyev’s press service also confirmed an upcoming meeting with the UAE president.
The last meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders took place in May in Tirana, Albania. Following those talks, the Armenian side stated that both countries had emphasized the importance of finalizing a peace agreement.
The sides discussed the current situation and reiterated the need to continue the process leading to a formal accord.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan could be signed “fairly soon.”
Some media reports have also suggested that Washington proposed involving an American operator to oversee transport links between the two nations.
