A section of the roof collapsed at Kazakhmys’s Zhomart mine in the Ulytau region, Orda.kz reports. No injuries were recorded.
Local activist Berik Zhagiparov shared a video from the scene, noting that the collapse occurred suddenly but miners managed to move to safety in time.
Kazakhmys confirmed the incident.
On November 3, around 12:00 p.m., a small roof detachment occurred at the Zhomart mine. Rock debris struck the back of a dump truck. There were no injuries, no equipment damage, and operations continue as normal,
the company’s press service stated.
The same mine was the site of a fatal incident in February 2025, when seven miners died. The incident was caused by methane ignition. A government commission later found Kazakhmys responsible.
Following that event, the company announced plans to review its safety systems and temporarily suspended most of its facilities.
Kazakhmys is owned by Vladimir Kim and Eduard Ogay, both featured on Forbes’ list of Kazakhstan’s wealthiest businesmen.
