Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry has signed an investment agreement with Kazakhtelecom JSC to expand high-speed Internet access to more than 3,000 additional rural settlements, Orda.kz reports.

The construction of fiber-optic communication lines is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 — a year ahead of schedule. For remote areas, satellite connections will ensure full coverage by the end of 2027.

By that time, 99% of all villages in the country will be connected to high-speed Internet. Schools, hospitals, government offices, and public institutions — including over 40 border checkpoints — are among the facilities slated for access.

Roughly 88% of the villages will be connected via fiber optics, with the remaining 12% using satellite.

The project will be funded through over 239 billion tenge in extra-budgetary investment, made possible by leveraging Kazakhtelecom’s existing infrastructure.

As part of the rollout, cellular base station infrastructure in rural areas will also be upgraded. Fiber-optic lines to these stations are expected to significantly improve the quality of mobile internet and communication services.
