A former police officer and his alleged accomplice have been placed in a temporary detention facility, Orda.kz reports, citing the press service of the East Kazakhstan regional police department.
On March 28, reports surfaced online about the arrest of two Oskemen residents suspected of “sexual acts with a person who is obviously under 16 years of age.” The suspects have been identified as 29-year-old Nurbek Dauren and 35-year-old former police officer Askar Zhumagulov.
Preliminary reports suggest that Zhumagulov may have engaged in similar behavior while still employed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The regional police confirmed the arrests.
A criminal case has been opened, and the detainees have been placed in a temporary detention facility, the department commented on the situation.
Authorities also noted that Zhumagulov had previously been dismissed from the police force for disciplinary violations.
