Oskemen Chief Prosecutor Suspended Amid Assault Probe
The chief prosecutor of Oskemen, Timur Chakpantayev, has been suspended from his post during an internal investigation, Orda.kz reports.
According to reports circulating on social media, around 2 a.m. on September 1, prosecutors were unexpectedly placed on alert. Initially thought to be an emergency, the incident was later linked to Chakpantayev, who summoned colleagues Irkov and Merenbaev to his office. A conflict broke out, allegedly ending in assault.
The next morning, the victims filed a police complaint. Unofficial reports suggest that a criminal case may have been opened under Article 109 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code (“Assault and Battery”), though the East Kazakhstan prosecutor’s office has not confirmed this.
The Internal Security Department of the Prosecutor’s Office is leading the inquiry. Other staff members were also subjected to disciplinary measures.
