The night liturgy with the rite of the great consecration of water began in the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty at 23.00.
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan led the service.
On the night of January 19, many Kazakhstanis traditionally participate in Epiphany bathing.
