Orthodox churches across Kazakhstan began Christmas Eve services at 23:00 on January 6. The main celebration was held at Almaty's Ascension Cathedral in the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park.

Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan led the service.
