Operated On Nazarbayev: Renowned Surgeon Chosen as National Academy of Sciences Academician

Yuri Pya was awarded the title of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Pya is known for performing diagnostic and treatment procedures on Nursultan Nazarbayev's heart.
The cardiac surgeon was elected in the field of "Medicine and Healthcare." Along with him, the scientist, gynecologist-oncologist Dilyara Kaidarova, also joined the NAS.
The academician members were elected by the decision of the general meeting of academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in accordance with the rules approved by the order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education dated September 23, 2024, the NAS website states.
Yuri Pya is originally from Taraz and graduated from the Moscow State Medical Institute, named after N. I. Pirogov in 1981.
He began his career in Tula and then worked in Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye.
In 2003, he was invited to Kazakhstan. Under Nazarbayev, he was awarded the title of "Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan" for his contribution to the development of medicine. He also headed the National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center in Astana, founded on the instructions of the country's first President.
In January 2023, Nursultan Nazarbayev underwent a diagnostic and treatment procedure on his heart.
Pya said it was planned, lasted about two and a half hours, and Nazarbayev felt fine afterward.
