In the East Kazakhstan region, the head of the industrial safety department is accused of abuse of authority, Orda.kz reports, citing Antikor.
The investigation was initiated because the official did not take measures to suspend mining operations where there was no positioning system.
This system is designed to determine the location of miners underground, help rescuers quickly find and evacuate those in emergencies, and in some cases save lives, Antikor explained.
As noted by the department, the absence of a positioning system is not a mandatory requirement for suspending operations. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has received a recommendation to make appropriate changes to legislation.
These shortcomings must be classified as significant violations prohibiting work on sites, the Anti-Corruption Service believes.
