New Police Chief Appointed in Talgar District

Colonel Askhat Bekenov has been appointed as the new head of the Talgar District Police Department by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The 45-year-old colonel, who has served in law enforcement since 1997, comes to the position from his previous role as deputy head of the Almaty Police Department combating criminal activity.
Originally from the Pavlodar region, Bekenov brings over 25 years of law enforcement experience.
He replaces Nurzhan Kontunov, who was removed from the position in mid-October following the death of 16-year-old Sherzot Polat.
Kontunov was among several police chiefs in the Almaty region who lost their positions after the teen was killed.
