New 5.3-km Hiking Trail to Big Almaty Lake Planned for 2026

A 5.3-kilometer hiking trail to Big Almaty Lake is set to open in 2026, Orda.kz reports
Construction is scheduled for completion in December this year.
According to the Almaty maslikhat, the project includes a route from the entrance area to viewing points near the reservoir, with modern wayfinding, information boards, rest areas, toilets, and safety features.
Planned upgrades also include panoramic lookout platforms over the gorge and lake, designated photo spots, and environmental info points on local flora, fauna, and hydrology. The route will feature stairways, boardwalks on difficult sections, fencing, and lighting along key segments.
