Two digital nomads — a resident of South Korea and a citizen of Singapore — have been granted the Neo Nomad Visa, which allows them to live in Kazakhstan and work remotely for up to a year.
Another application submitted by a U.S. citizen is currently under review, Orda. kz reports.
The Neo Nomad Visa enables foreign professionals to continue working for their overseas companies while residing in Kazakhstan. Designed for modern digital nomads who blend work with travel, the program positions Kazakhstan as an appealing destination for remote specialists and enhances its reputation as an international hub for collaboration.
The Ministry of Tourism estimates that if 500 people receive the visa, the initiative could generate an annual economic impact of around 3.6 billion tenge. By living and spending locally, visa holders contribute to the economy without taking jobs in Kazakhstan's domestic labor market.
The program’s first recipient was Sertaç Yener, a British expert in energy and finance. He plans to come to Kazakhstan to study the country's culture, nature, and cuisine.
Yener noted that he is familiar with the Kazakh language. His daughter studied it alongside Central Asian culture at the University of Chicago.
Kazakhstan is an amazing country! With the Neo Nomad Visa program, we have the opportunity to stay in this country for up to one year. The visa will allow me to work remotely in my company and get to know Kazakhstan, immersing myself in nature, cuisine, music, traditions and language. The Kazakh language has captivated me with its melody,” Yener said.
