Most cases involve children under the age of five, the majority of whom were unvaccinated, Orda.kz reports.
Officials presented alarming figures in the government. Since the beginning of 2026, Kazakhstan has registered 1,951 measles cases. The disease is spreading mainly among children under five. Almost everyone infected is unvaccinated.
The highest numbers were recorded in Astana, Almaty, Zhambyl Region, and Atyrau Region. Incidence has decreased by 85% compared to 2024, but, according to officials, the risks remain high due to low vaccination coverage. In several regions, immunization rates are falling short of targets. The most difficult situation is in Mangystau Region.
Earlier, we reported on a measles outbreak at the military college named after Shokan Ualikhanov Military College in Shchuchinsk, Akmola Region. The actual number of infected cadets exceeded one hundred, and the institution had to set up a hospital.
