"My Son's Killers Walk Free" - Mother Blocked Road in Atyrau
The woman has demanded justice in the investigation into her son's death, reports an Orda.kz correspondent.
On August 21 this year, in the village of Akzhar near Atyrau, seventh-grade student Merlan drowned under unclear circumstances. His friends told his mother that the teenager was allegedly pushed into the water by a senior student.
Merlan's body was found in the river, and his clothes and mobile phone were lying on the bank.
His funeral has already been held, but his mother, Anargul Kasantaeva, comes to the scene of the incident every day. The woman seeks justice, claiming the investigation is dragging on.
Anargul has repeatedly contacted the police and the prosecutor's office, but she says investigators ignore her requests.
I'm still waiting, but the case hasn't moved forward. The investigators have blocked my phone number. They tell me to wait, but it's already been three months. Why should I wait? Those who pushed my son into the water still walk free. No action is being taken. They say that an investigation is underway. But several investigators have changed, and I still haven't heard a single clear answer. I've contacted all possible authorities, asking for justice and help. Even at the prosecutor's office, the guards pushed me out. I have no choice, says the mother.
The boy's relatives are dissatisfied that the investigation is being conducted under Article 104 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Causing Death by Negligence/Involuntary Manslaughter"). They demand that the case be reclassified.
Tired of waiting, Anargul Kasantaeva blocked off part of the road leading to the city and regional prosecutor's office in protest yesterday. The police detained the woman.
A city resident tried to restrict traffic and resisted the lawful demands of police officers aimed at preventing this offense. It should be noted that the woman is the mother of a teenager who died in August while swimming with friends in the Jaiyq River. The police are continuing a series of investigative actions, and the affected party is receiving explanations, commented the Atyrau region DP.
The police department has also assured that the investigation's progress is under its leadership's control.
