Majilis member Adil Zhubanov discussed Samruq-Qazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund and proposed its complete dissolution, Orda.kz reports.
There are people in Kazakhstan who have never done business but are extremely wealthy — simply because they work in national companies. Not a single member of their family has been involved in entrepreneurship, yet we all know these very rich individuals. Essentially, we’re handing over all national wealth into a few hands — making it easier to steal. Overall, I oppose the work of Samruq-Qazyna. It should be disbanded, and its assets transferred to a competitive environment, the deputy stated.
His proposal was met with a response from Nurlan Nurzhanov, a member of the Supreme Audit Chamber. He confirmed that the Chamber would soon conduct an audit of the Samruq-Qazyna fund.
Given the current circumstances, we are carrying out an audit of Samruq-Qazyna. According to the plan, it will be completed by July. We will deliver a full report and recommendations. This matter concerns us as well, Nurzhanov noted.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has also stated that the fund requires reform.
