A Moscow court has issued an arrest warrant in absentia for prominent Russian political analyst and former Maqsut Narikbayev University lecturer Ekaterina Schulmann, Orda.kz reports.
The Meshchansky District Court ruled to detain Schulmann for two months on charges related to her alleged failure to comply with the requirements of a “foreign agent” under Russian law.
Schulmann is accused under Part 1 of Article 330.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (failure to fulfill the obligations of a foreign agent). The court ruled to detain her for a period of two months from the moment of her arrest on Russian territory, or, in case of extradition, from the moment she crosses the state border,
the ruling states.
Schulmann was added to Russia’s list of foreign agents back in 2022. In March 2025, she was declared internationally wanted, but her case briefly disappeared from public access just one day later.
She previously worked as an associate professor at Maqsut Narikbayev University in Astana, but according to the institution, her contract ended on August 1, 2024.
Schulmann has spoken positively about Kazakhstan on multiple occasions. In December 2023, she described the country as a “second Israel” and expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended to Russian emigrants.
