Turkish police detained a Kazakhstani who fought in Syria alongside extremists, Orda.kz reports.
As the KNB reported, several years ago, a citizen of Kazakhstan went to Syria, where he joined one of the armed groups. The department did not specify which one but stated he is suspected of involvement in an international terrorist organization.
The man eventually moved from Syria to Türkiye. In Antalya, he was detained by local police.
He has made the decision to voluntarily return to Kazakhstan and is ready to bear the criminal liability provided for by law, the KNB said in a statement.
The former participant in the civil war in Syria was brought to Almaty. The man was taken into custody, and a pre-trial investigation is underway.
