A luxury mansion once owned by former KNB Chair Karim Massimov, which authorities had repeatedly tried and failed to sell at auction, has been transferred to the Ministry of Education, Orda.kz reports.
The ministry confirmed to Orda.kz that the property is now on its balance sheet. Plans are underway to open a branch of the National Center for the Development of Inclusive Education inside the building.
Due to the growing number of children with special educational needs, it was decided to expand the network of special and inclusive education institutions nationwide. The main center will remain in Almaty, while branches will open in all regions, including Astana. This approach will provide a unified scientific and methodological base, improve conditions for specialists, parents and children, and increase the effectiveness of special education institutions, the ministry’s press service explained.
The seized property, covering 2,878 square meters and equipped with a disco bar, theater, swimming pool, gym, and dozens of rooms, had long remained unsold despite repeated attempts to auction it off. Its price dropped by 40%, yet no buyers came forward.
Authorities had previously considered transferring it to municipal ownership for social purposes, but the plan failed at the time.
On the second attempt, however, the property was finally given to the state.
