Massimov’s Daughter Loses Property Lawsuit Against Fugitive Ex-Husband Kapenov

A Moscow court has rejected a lawsuit filed by Tamila Karim, daughter of former Kazakh National Security Committee chief Karim Massimov, who sought to claim jointly acquired property from her ex-husband, businessman Azamat Kapenov, Orda.kz reports.
Karim had been in court for over two years with Kapenov and a third party, Ch.B. Sheyshekeeva. The defendants filed a counterclaim during the proceedings, and the claim amount was increased several times. On June 9, the Moscow City Court dismissed Karim’s case.

The exact property in dispute has not been disclosed, as the court’s decision has yet to be published.
However, Russian media reports suggest the case involved luxury Moscow real estate registered in Kapenov’s name. This includes a villa in Serebryany Bor with a 2,900 m² plot, which was listed for sale in 2020 for one billion rubles.
The listing described a two-story cottage with several bedrooms, a sauna, parking for four cars, a laundry room, and so on.


The Telegram channel @off_shores reported that Kapenov also owns a 931 m² mansion in the village of Zhukovka (prestigious residential area Rublyovka), allegedly worth 1.2 billion tenge.
Additionally, Kapenov is believed to have helped his younger brother, Madiyar, acquire a 234 m² apartment in Varsonofyevsky Lane, a historic neighborhood once home to famous Soviet artists in central Moscow. The property is now registered under their mother, Aigul Musayeva.
Kapenov and Tamila Karim married in 2015. Following the arrest of her father in the aftermath of the January 2022 events in Kazakhstan, it emerged that the couple had divorced.
Media outlets speculated that the divorce may have been a tactic to conceal assets. However, court records from Moscow show that the couple continued legal proceedings into 2023, including a custody battle over their two sons.
A UAE court ultimately ruled that the children would alternate living with each parent two weeks each month, confirming Karim’s residence in Dubai.
Azamat Kapenov has been evading law enforcement since 2024. He is wanted by both Kazakhstan’s Anti-Corruption Agency and the Investigative Department of Moscow’s Internal Affairs Directorate.
