Man Sentenced After Attacking Ex-Daughter-in-Law During Wedding in Turkistan Region

The widely discussed incident involving the beating of a singer in the Turkistan region has ended with a court verdict, Orda.kz reports.
The man who raised his hand against singer Azoda Tursinmuradova will spend the next year under the supervision of law enforcement and will pay a substantial fine. He turned out to be the victim’s former father-in-law. Seeing his ex-daughter-in-law on stage at someone else’s wedding with a microphone in her hand, the man approached her and struck her several times.
As a result, Azoda fell to the floor. The moment was caught on camera, and the video quickly spread across social media.
The court established that the attacker committed hooligan actions — meaning he blatantly violated public order, showed clear disrespect for those around him, and used physical force against the victim. Bruises were documented on Azoda’s neck, forearm, and chest.
According to the forensic medical examination, these injuries did not cause harm to her health and fall into the category that does not lead to short-term health impairment, the Turkistan Regional Court commented.
The prosecutor requested a one-year prison sentence for the defendant. The victim supported the prosecution’s position and demanded 700,000 tenge in material damages and 10 million tenge in moral damages.
The defendant tried to have the case reclassified to a lighter offense and sought to get away with a fine.
The court took into account mitigating circumstances — no prior convictions and remorse. No aggravating circumstances were found. The defendant received one year of restricted freedom.
In addition, he was ordered to pay 800,000 tenge in moral damages and 700,000 tenge in legal expenses to the victim. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
